Holy Chicken: The truth about Chick-Fil-A

holy chicken Holy Chicken: The truth about Chick Fil A I have never been a fan of Chick-Fil-A because I do not like fast food in general. But, I have always disliked them more than most because they pretend to be the healthier and holier option to other fast food chains. When in fact, they are pretty horrible all around! Although I want to go on a long rant, I will keep this short and just hit the main points.

For starters, chicken is NOT the healthier choice as it is often misrepresented. For years I have heard moms tell me that they don’t eat fast food or let their kids eat it, except for Chick-Fil-A because they can get “healthier” options there. In fact, factory farmed chickens contain acetaminophen, caffeine, chlorine, high amounts of sodium and MSG, TBHQ (a form of butane), artificial coloring, antibiotics, arsenic, antihistamine and antidepressants! This is also the case with other chains like KFC and McDonald’s. The only way to avoid harmful ingredients is to buy organic, or skip chicken all together.

Secondly, factory farmed chickens are treated extremely inhumane. They live in dark, cramped sheds standing amongst other sick and dying chickens in their own excrement often unable to move until they are slaughtered. That does not sit well with me when the owners claim to be devout Christians. I do not believe that God’s creatures should be drugged and tortured by the millions in the name of financial profit. The environmental impact of factory farming is pretty astonishing as well.  And, doesn’t the bible say that “your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit… honor God with your body”? Not sure how their processed, unhealthy food fits into God’s plan. At least we get a break from Chick-Fil-A on Sundays.factory farming Holy Chicken: The truth about Chick Fil A

Lastly, their most recent anti-gay comments claiming the bible as the source of their beliefs seems almost comical to me it is so hypocritical. They released a statement defending their bigoted comments saying they have a history of applying biblically-based principles to their business, such as keeping its stores closed on Sundays.

Forget about them contributing to the obesity epidemic, ruining the environment, discriminating against gay people, and endorsing inhumane farming practices. They observe the sabbath. So, it’s all good!

This was an eye-opener for me wow! I thought Chick- Fil-A was pretty healthy. I will not be eating there ever again. Once again another fast food chain that has lied to the consumer; thank you so much for this informative information. I will be telling all my friends and co-workers. Thank you! :)

I loved this! Everything you said I was silently cheering to in my head. I couldn’t agree more with you about the hypocrisy. It seems like profit does always prevail- especially over morals! Boo! Spread the word, sister. XO

Beautifully put! I’m 100% behind what you say. Turns out I’m doing an art piece on exactly this and ran across your website. It’s nice to know people are thinking like this rather than get stirred up by the hypocritical “Christian” values Chick-fil-a is promoting.

Funny. When God gave the 10 Commandments and included, “Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy,” S/He meant the Jewish sabbath which I believe starts Friday night sunset and extends to Saturday sundown. They didn’t even get that right!

Interesting opinions (not sure how they’re “ruining the environment” though) . Chick-Fil-A does seem to offer a list of sides that goes beyond breaded and fried potatoes and onions which is better than most fast food chains. But who really goes to a fast food restaurant for healthy food anyway? You’re right when you say the only way to avoid harmful ingredients in chicken is to buy organic or better yet skip altogether.

Hi Kara, thanks for your comment. I think you would be surprised that people do actually go through fast food thinking they are getting a healthy option because they have been told chicken is healthy. As far as Chick-Fil-A’s “lighter” menu and side salads, they are extremely unhealthy. For example, their wraps each have well over 1000mg of sodium each. That is almost your entire recommended daily intake in one small meal! The salads also have plenty of sugar and sodium. Once you add the croutons, tortilla strips, or granola, and salad dressing it is a high calorie health nightmare.

Last, but not least, factory farming has the biggest carbon footprint of anything in this country. More than cars or any other industry! They are definitely playing a large role in ruining the environment.
