The Story of Total Mommy Fitness Magazine

total mommy fitnessAfter more than a year of preparation, I am so happy to officially release Total Mommy Fitness Magazine. It is currently available for iPhone and iPad, as a digital magazine app, free in iTunes.

The magazine is a go to guide for moms who want to be healthy, happy, and fit. You can watch instructional videos, download helpful tools, and read inspiring and educational articles each month.

Total Mommy Fitness began out of a desire to create meaningful change in the way we approach pre-/postnatal fitness, and support moms in their efforts to stay healthy. The goal of has always been to reach a global audience with this important information, but until now I wasn’t entirely sure how to do that successfully.

When the opportunity to create a digital magazine came along it was like a light bulb went off. Yes!! Moms are busy and mobile, an app will reach them where they already are. Plus, it resonated with me on a personal level because when I was younger I wanted to be a fitness writer, but decided against pursuing it because I knew I wanted to work for myself. A digital magazine both fulfills my personal goals and solves the dilemma of how to reach moms worldwide in a meaningful way.

I decided to make a magazine for moms that offers real advice for real women about how to be healthy and happy. No “get fit quick” fluff and “super mom” rhetoric. I’m not trying to create another Shape or Fitness magazine. You will not learn how to get flat abs in just 2 minutes a day or lose 10lbs overnight.

The information in Total Mommy Fitness magazine focuses on how to improve overall well being — physically, mentally and emotionally. My goal is to help moms be as fit and happy as possible because healthy mothers raise healthy children. The impact of reaching moms in a positive way has the potential to literally change the world, and future generations.

tatum rebelle and martie maguireThe Novemeber issue features a woman who is a mom of three young girls and has achieved incredible things in her career. Martie Maguire of the Dixie Chicks and Court Yard Hounds grew up the daughter of school teachers. She began playing the fiddle at age 5, and went on to co-found the most successful female band of all time with her younger sister. Martie also happens to be one of the kindest women I know. It is an honor to have her as the first cover mom and special guest at the recent launch party.

The magazine has already been downloaded several thousand times and is featured on iTunes as “What’s Hot” in health and fitness. This map shows the countries where moms have downloaded Total Mommy Fitness Magazine and have been reached with the message of self-care, finding balance, being happy, staying fit, and living a fulfilling life. Seeing it thrills me and warms my heart. I want to make this entire map dark blue.

I was optimistic at the start of this endeavor, but honestly had no idea what to expect. The response has been so exciting and encouraging, I cannot wait to see what’s to come!
